Our day to day lives can be extremely stressful, so it’s nice to unwind in our very own tropical oasis. With just a few simple steps you can transform your yard into a place of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Dark stained decking

Tropical inspired resorts usually favour stained, wooden decking. Do up your outdoor entertaining spaces or pool surrounds with dark timber decking. To give it an extra tropical vibe, try adorning your deck with some Oriental or Balinese inspired outdoor furniture such as daybeds, benches and lounges.

Make it lush

The defining feature of a tropical oasis is lush vegetation. Place crawling vines along walls and fences and plant big, leafy bushes throughout the yard. Great choices are palm trees, canna plants, cordylines and tiger grass. Scatter bursts of colour with bromeliads, birds of paradise and clivia plants to bring your oasis to life.

Consider a pool

Nothing says tropical oasis like a beautiful, aqua blue pool. While pools cost a fair bit of money, they will add massive amounts of value to your home, while providing a great place for your family to hang out in summer. If you already have a pool, make it more tropical by adding in potted tropical plants or lush garden beds.

Install a water feature

Can’t afford a pool? Install a decorative water feature instead! This way you can enjoy the tranquil sounds of water without having to splash too much cash. Depending on your budget and land size, you can design a feature to suit you. Go for a simple statue and water feature, or invest in a luxurious waterfall or pond.

Install a Bali hut or gazebo

Bali huts and gazebos are a great way to add a bit of Tropicana to your yard. The natural Alang Alang thatching of Bali huts are extremely tropical and look particularly effective when placed on dark decking. Gazebos can also be designed in a tropical style, while being made to match your existing roofing.
